Paithalmala Hill Station
Paithalmala is one of the famous hill stations which is situated near Pottenplave Village in Kannur district of Kerala. It has an altitude of 1372 m above sea level. Paithalmala is nestled in the Western Ghats as well as it lies in the Kerala- Karnataka border nearby to Kodagu forest.
Paithalmala is spread over 500 acres of land enriched with dense forest. This area is under the control of Kerala Forest Department. It is an ideal place for photographers, nature lovers and especially for trekkers. The hill station is habitation to a diverse array of flora and fauna.
There is a watchtower at the hilltop which is made by the tourism department. We will take almost 1-hour walk from the Paithalmala to reach the hilltop. The scenery of the valley from the watchtower is eye-catching. Moreover, we can enjoy the beauty of nature as well also feel the cool breeze. So it will make you more energetic and refreshing.
Paithalmala gets an abundant amount of rainfall throughout the year. It has two trekking seasons which comes in Monsoon and summer. Monsoon season is the best time to visit for photographers because the mountains and forest are enclosed with fog. In summer season trekking is not easy because of its extreme weather. The best time for trekking is from January to March and the best time to start trekking is early morning.
It is a must-visit place in Kannur and It is a place of splendid natural beauty and also a perfect place to escape from your hectic work life to enjoy nature, relax and perform adventurous activities. So visiting this place is worthwhile and it would be really a memorable experience.
