Kochi Muziris Biennale 2018
Kochi Muziris Biennale is an international exhibition of contemporary arts held in Kochi, Kerala. It is the largest Biennale in India organized by the Kochi Biennale Foundation. Kochi Biennale 2018 is the fourth edition, which started in 2012. Anita Dube will be the curator. A student Biennale will also be conducted in those days. It will run parallel to the Muziris Biennale. This edition of Kochi Biennale will focus on exploring the “Possibilities for a Non-alienated Life”.
Date And Venues
Kochi Muziris Biennale 2018 will start on 12th December 2018, 9:00 am and ends on 29th March 2019, 9:00 pm. Aspinwall House, Durbar Hall, Pepper House, Cabral Yard, David Hall, Kashi Art Cafe, Kashi Town House, Uru Art Harbour, and Anand warehouse are the venues of Kochi Muziris Biennale 2018 which are located in and around Kochi. Aspinwall House will be the main venue.
The programmes include talks, conferences, performances, educational interventions, workshops, etc. Some of the programmes are given below:
Pepper House Residency
It is an international residency programme conducted for artists within a studio at Pepper House, Fort Kochi.
Let’s Talk Series
It is a public conversation forum running throughout the year which contemplates and discusses art and cultural practices. Around 40 talks and conferences are organized each year. Speakers are thinkers, artists, and scholars.
Master Practice Studios
Master Practice Studios programme is a series of workshops which provide interested practitioners, an opportunity to work with master artists. This year workshops will run from June through October. Painter T.V.Santosh is leading the current workshop.
The film programme running parallel to the K0chi Muziris Biennale which shows art films, documentaries, and feature films from across the world curated by filmmakers and film scholars.
Art By Children
Art By Children(ABC) is a learning initiative designed by the Kochi Biennale Foundation. It is to foster creative thinking in children equipping them to make connections and think critically. It is India’s first art event dedicated to children ‘s artworks.
Arts & Medicine
It is a weekly programme to promote community engagement and unity through live music. Music works as a medicine. Popular music artists from around Kerala are performing at the General Hospital in Ernakulam in order to bring general healing environment at the hospital.
Music of Muziris
It includes performances by traditional musicians and contemporary performers from large concert spaces to informal improvisational sessions.
It is a space for experimentation and research through innovative video projects on contemporary arts, artists and art practices. It is an initiative supported by Tata Trusts.
Volunteer at Kochi Muziris Biennale 2018
It is very important to have a team of dedicated volunteers for the smooth running of this Biennale. They have to work in various efforts including production, programming, and documentation. This is the time to apply to be a part of the fourth edition for the active participation from November 2018 to March 2019. Application accepted until November 7, 2018, from those who have a keen interest in arts and are diligent.
